Yoga Teachers in Athens and Alimos

We are Alexandra and Antaratma, Yoga teachers in Athens and Alimos, Greece, dedicated to guiding our students through the practice of Yoga. Our early encounter with Yoga ignited a quest for deeper meaning, and led us to discover, through this ancient practice, a way of communicating with ourselves and with others.

As we explored our own paths, we found that the essence of Yoga is self-discovery. Encouraged by our teachers, we felt called to share the practice with others, guided by the words of Ramana Maharshi, who reminds us that there are no others, only reflections of ourselves.

We offer regular group and private Yoga classes in Athens and Alimos, online classes so that everyone can join, Yoga workshops and Yoga retreats.

Muktitara Alexandra Sotiropoulou

Born and raised in Athens, Alexandra began practising Yoga in 1996 under the guidance of Derek Ireland and Kristina Karytinou, in the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system, at the Practice Place in Southern Crete. This was the beginning of a lifelong practice, and it brought her relief from physical and psychological pain. She completed two teacher training courses in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, with Kristina Karytinou in 2003 and with David Swenson in Scotland in 2005.

In 2002, Alexandra enrolled in Yogic Studies 1 of the Satyananda Yoga system, and in 2007 she attended the Instructor’s Training Course at Satyanandashram Hellas.

She was then drawn to Vanda Scaravelli’s book Awakening the Spine. Inspired by the author’s poetic and articulate explanation of the method, she sought out a close student of Scaravelli and found Diane Long, who had studied with Scaravelli for 23 years. Alexandra studied Scaravelli-inspired Yoga with her from 2008 to 2019.

Alexandra is a Yoga Instructor at Zen Center Athens, and the Coordinator and Teacher of the Kaisanji Yoga and Zen Retreats on the island of Serifos, Greece, where she brings Yoga and Zen practice together.

With three decades of personal practice and more than twenty years of teaching, Alexandra is a 500-hour certified Yoga Instructor by Yoga Alliance International. She teaches in greek and english and specialises in Asana and Meditation.

Antaratma Theodoros Chiotis

Antaratma Theodoros Chiotis was born and raised in Athens, Greece. He began practising and studying Yoga in 1995, in the Satyananda Yoga system, under the guidance of Swami Shivamurti Saraswati. His introduction to Yoga came during a Satsang, where he was deeply moved by the singing of Kirtan. He saw the energy that arises when people come together to sing and dance, using mantras, music and rhythm, and this experience was the beginning of his path in Yoga.

Kirtan, a form of Nada Yoga (the Yoga of sound) and Bhakti Yoga (the Yoga of the heart), became a central part of his practice. In 1998 he began composing and singing Kirtan, as a way to express himself and connect with the Self.

In 1999 he enrolled in Yogic Studies 1, encouraged by his teachers rather than by any personal ambition to teach. He completed the Instructor’s Training Course in Satyananda Yoga in 2000 and holds a 1,000-hour certificate from Satyanandashram Hellas. Since then he has led many Yoga classes, workshops and retreats for students and instructors, and he teaches at Zen Center Athens.

As an artist and musician, Antaratma’s relationship with sound began early, when he started studying classical guitar. Music has an important place in his life, and Yoga has allowed him to explore sound more deeply. Sound continues to inspire his teaching and connects him to the essence of Yoga.

Through his teaching and the practice of Kirtan, Antaratma invites students to experience the joy of practising and singing together, in a sense of unity that goes beyond individual differences. It brings participants together in a shared experience that resonates with the heart.
